Betty Sue Sabin

Betty Sue Sabin was born October 8, 1936 in Valdosta, Georgia to Elihue and Evelyn Graham.  She and her younger sister Ginger were raised in Tallahassee, Florida and Betty Sue graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Education.  At Florida State University she was a member and eventually president of Kappa Delta Sorority.  She moved to Orlando, Florida after graduation and began teaching first grade at Blankner Elementary School.  She met her future husband, Sevier Sabin, in Orlando and they became engaged soon after meeting.  Betty Sue and Sevier were married on July 6th, 1963 and were together for 59 years before Sevier’s passing in January, 2023.  They had 2 children, Tripp and Kathy, born just 15 months apart.  After her children were born, Betty Sue quit teaching but later in life she worked at Stein Mart as a boutique sales associate for 10 years and was very active in numerous service and social organizations including Junior League of Orlando and the Council of 101.

She enjoyed playing tennis and competed in doubles matches with her tennis team at Fort Gatlin Recreation Complex for many years.  She also played bridge and was a member of several women’s bridge groups.  Betty Sue was a wonderful hostess, a fabulous cook and she was always impeccably dressed.  She and Sevier were fortunate to be able to travel extensively and they made many trips to Europe, Canada, Russia, Mexico and across the United States.   France was one of their favorite places to travel and they especially loved French food and wine.  Betty Sue was adored by her husband and much loved by her children and friends.  She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn (Kathy)  Swartwood (Garrett) and grandchildren Madeline, Jack and Graham Swartwood, her sister Ginger Tillman, and several nephews and cousins.  She is preceded in death by her husband Sevier and her son Albert Sevier Sabin, III (Tripp).
