No, embalming is not necessary when direct cremation is used.
Caskets are generally used for burial, but they are not needed for cremation. You can choose a different type of container. In many cases, we use a cardboard option. However, if you prefer, caskets can be used as long as the casket is biodegradable. It needs to be made of combustible material such as wood to be safe during cremation.
An urn is often used after cremation. An urn is designed to hold the cremated remains of the deceased. Although many urns may look like sealed vases, there are many styles and materials available.
While many people do choose an urn after cremation, it’s not necessary. After direct cremation, we provide a black plastic urn for your convenience. If you want something more unique or special, you are free to find a new urn of your choosing.
When you choose cremation, you have control over how the ashes are handled. Some common choices include:
