Jed Edward Emert was born, raised, and resided in Blount County. He was born on August 7, 1974 and passed away surrounded by his family and loved ones on Sunday September 17, 2023.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Paul and Vickie Emert, along with many dearly missed aunts and uncles.
He was survived by his children Gabe and Ashlee Emert, Shelby Emert and Joshua Wilson, and McKensie and Mark Turner; as well as his grandchildren Adalynn, Payton, Colter, and Hayden Emert, Bentley Wilson, and Raelyn Turner. He was also survived by his siblings April and Rusty Turbyfill, Justin and Jill Emert, also his dearly loved nieces and nephews.
Jed graduated from Heritage High School in 1993, from Maryville College with his Bachelor’s in 1997, and later received his Master’s of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was called to preach in May of 1992, and ministered for 13 years. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in 2019. He spent the last several years of his life dedicating his time and services to helping recovering addicts rediscover their purpose in life; in doing so, he found his. He held his children and grandchildren as his biggest achievement in life. He was gifted in music; you could always find Jed with an instrument in his hands, bringing joy and laughter to others through his talent. Anyone who knew Jed loved him and he will be dearly missed by all.
His Celebration of life will be held at Oak Street Baptist Church, 218 Oakdale St. Maryville, TN, on Saturday September 23, 2023. Receiving of Friends will begin at one o’clock that afternoon, followed by the Celebration of Life at three. As Jed always said, “Keep that cool factor.”
