Hunley, Betty Louise (Yarnell), 85, passed away at her home on August 12, 2014 at 5:45 pm.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, SSG US Marine Corp Ret. Lonzo B. Hunley Jr; parents, Harry and Martha Yarnell; brother, Harry Yarnell, Jr.; sisters, Agnes Yarnell Mikels and Hazel Yarnell Braswell.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: US Army Ret. Lonzo B. Hunley III and Guellen Hunley, Cathy Hunley and SFC US Army Ret. Teresa Diann Wilcox, Janice Hunley Wade and Michael Wade; grandchildren and spouses: Jessica Hunley and Kenneth Greene, Dustin Wade and Shadiya Wade; Great Grand Children: Lonzo Wade and Vivian Greene; Sisters: Mary Ruth Yarnell Maples and Ruby Yarnell Krosnes; Brother, Frank Yarnell; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Betty graduated from Knoxville High School and spent 20 years traveling as a military wife. As her children moved out, she became a nurse and retired from Baptist Hospital.

In 1975, Betty and L.B. started taking in Vietnamese refugees and were host family for International Students at U.T.

In the last few years, Betty worked with African refugees through Bridge Refugee Services.

Betty was an active member of Stock Creek Baptist Church and filled hundreds of shoe boxes for Franklin Graham’s Operation Christmas Child.

Larry Allen Hill, 58, of Knoxville, died Aug. 15, 2014, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Hill; stepson, Joe Carter; granddaughter, Tatum Carter; sisters, Ethelene Relation and Brenda Tyler, both of Maryville; and brother, Raymond W. Hill of Lubkin, Texas.

Joyce Ann Purkey, age 60, Friendsville, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 20, 2014. She was a member of Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene. Preceded in death by parents, Virgil and Mattie Purkey. Survived by brother, Harold Purkey and wife Lynda; sister, Karen Brendle; goddaughter, Miranda (Cameron) Rudd; nephews, Nick (Amanda) Purkey.

John Gary Arnett, 63, passed away on August 29, 2014.

Arlene Marie Bates, 90, of Livingston, TN, passed away on September 9, 2014.

Alma Ann Vittetoe, 75, of Rockford, TN, passed away on September 15, 2014.

WOLKOTTE, KARYN – went to be with her Savior on September 15, 2014. She is survived by her three sons, Christopher, Eric, Mark; and two daughters in-law, Rhonda Wolkotte and Becky Wolkotte; seven grandchildren: Abby, Christopher Jr., Charlotte, Lilly, Mark Jr., Jonathan, Collin and Christalynn; one brother, Timothy Saylor.

Marie Louise Vandiver, 54, of Knoxville, passed away on September 29, 2014.

CARTER, SUSAN LOUISE MUSSELMAN – 59, traded her broken, earthly body for a pain-free heavenly one on November 6, 2014. Susan was the beloved daughter of George (deceased) and Polly Musselman; the treasured older sister of Cindy and Pete Musselman; the faithful wife and companion of Kevin Carter; the loving and devoted mother of Daniel.

Vanessa Darlene McMahan of Knoxville passed away on November 7, 2014.

Roger Kevin Smith, 47, of Sevierville, TN, passed into eternal peace on Friday, November 14, 2014, after a short but difficult battle with liver disease.  Roger was the loving father of three wonderful sons, a beautiful daughter, and countless “adopted” children – friends of his children, who were always welcomed in his home and knew and loved him as “Papa Rog”.

Roger was known to many in Knoxville, TN, as “The BBQ Man” for his award-winning Smokehouse BBQ restaurants.  He was a gifted salesman who could sell ice cubes to an Eskimo.  Most recently, he worked as a Sales Representative for Westgate Resort, sharing his own special stories of family times and his love of the Great Smoky Mountains to seal his deals.  Roger loved football and volunteered as a coach for his sons’ teams for many years.  He also loved fishing, music, spending time at the lake, and living in the mountains.

Roger was predeceased by his father, Sherman Smith.  He is survived by his sons, Zachary Smith of Sevierville, TN; Nicholas Smith of Knoxville, TN; and, Jacob Smith of Knoxville, TN; daughter Amanda (Marshall) Reeves of Ganado, TX; mother of his sons, Amy Smith of Knoxville, TN; his mother, Norma Rivera of Houston, TX; sister, Loretta Barnett; three brothers – Gary, David, and Rodney; two grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many special friends.

In accordance with Roger’s wishes, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Douglas Dam Tailwater Campground Group Pavilion on Sunday, November 23, 2014, at 2:00 pm.  In honor of the way Roger lived his life, all family and friends are welcome.

Anna Ruth Milligan, 85, of Clinton, TN passed away on November 21, 2014.
