Scotty Chaffin

Scotty Mitchell Chaffin, 59 of Jonesborough, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Wise, Virginia, the son of the late Beecher and Leona Estella Kiser Chaffin.

Scott was employed by GTL Construction in Johnson City, Tennessee, for sixteen years as a project manager but was forced to give up the career he loved due to his health.  He was a graduate of Ervinton High School.  He was preceded in death by two sisters, Regina Kay Chaffin Clay and Dura Jean Chaffin Maust, and five brothers, Stanley Chaffin, Luther Trenton Chaffin, Henry Clinton Chaffin, James Clayton Chaffin, and Harold Denton Chaffin.

Scott is survived by two daughters, Heather Word and husband, Junior and granddaughter Rylee; Sarah Shilling and Family; five brothers; Randal Chaffin and wife Vivian, Doyte Chaffin and wife Cathy, Billy Chaffin and wife Tanya, Danny Chaffin and wife Cathy, Benton Chaffin, and one sister, Charlotte “Sissy” Chaffin; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to his special friends for all of their help over the past year.  George and Amanda Leonard, Mr. and Mrs. David Thompson, Jerry Story, and Tommy Greene.

He was a loving father, brother, grandfather, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life service will be conducted on January 5, 2019, at 1:00 pm with a visitation from 12:00-1:00 pm in the Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia, with the Rev. Lanny Powers officiating.  An Interment will follow at the Chaffin family cemetery, Hazel Mountain, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gray Fossil Museum: 1212 Suncrest Dr. Gray, TN 37615.
