Dr. William T. “Bill” Snyder, 93, died peacefully Sept. 23, 2025, at Fort Sanders ICU. He was chancellor at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville 1992-2001 and former house organist at the Tennessee Theatre. After retiring from playing the organ in 2018, he continued to raise funds to support the theater, his “home away from home” for 39 years. Preceded in death by his parents, William Emmett “Boog” Snyder and Ann Snyder, and sister, Dorothy A. Snyder. Survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret; three daughters, Edie Gilboy of Louisville, CO; Sarah Frazier of Knoxville; and Martha Britton (Bob) of Frankenmuth, MI; and seven grandchildren: Kim Hays, Hannah Lewis, James Gilboy, Wiley Gilboy, Ian Britton, Megan Colmer (Will) and Jeremy Britton. Special thanks to our many wonderful caregivers from Care Around the Block, Senior Helpers and Alternative Care Sitting Services: Ian, Jamesena, Sandra, Brian, Karli, Linda, Brittany, Ebony, Scott, Marsha and Debbie. A musical memorial will be Nov. 2 at the Tennessee Theatre; doors open at 1pm, concert at 2pm. Memorials may be made to the Historic Tennessee Theatre Foundation, the University of Tennessee at Knoxville or Washington Presbyterian Church. Dogwood Cremation is in charge.
