Linda Jean Parks

Linda Jean (Brodmerkel) Parks passed away on May 28, 2021, at her home in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Linda was born in Alexandria, Virginia on March 15th, 1943 to Mary Elizabeth and Donald L. Brodmerkel. She called many places home throughout her childhood, including Pennsylvania, New York, and Colorado, and graduated from Mount Lebanon High School in 1961. She attended college in Grove City, PA, where she majored in music.

Linda was working as an executive assistant for U.S. Steel in Pittsburg, PA when she met Jim Parks – the love of her life. They were married on June 29th, 1968, in Atlanta, GA, and lived their lives together in Homestead, FL, Idaho Falls, ID, and Oak Ridge, TN. Linda and Jim adopted two children, Nancy and David, and gave them all of the best opportunities in life. Linda was a lifetime musician and had a great love of singing, playing piano, guitar, and participating in different church and handbell choirs. She spent many years sharing her love of music with her family and communities in Idaho Falls and Oak Ridge. She enjoyed being a homemaker, a room mother, a scout leader, and a friend to many. She was also an avid animal lover and had many pets throughout the years and supported many animal charities and organizations. She enjoyed Bible study groups and attended the United Methodist and Presbyterian churches in Idaho Falls.

Linda loved to travel with her family and friends and share adventures with her grandkids. She loved to dress up and decorate for holidays and turn any occasion into an elaborate one. If you asked Linda about her family, she would always include the ones she called grandkids – Lindsey, Shanice, Zak, AJ, Abby, Spencer, Elijah, Maggie, CJ, and Alleiah. She had a big heart for all of her “in-laws and outlaws,” as she called them, and treasured her time as “Granny P.”

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Donald L. Brodmerkel and Mary Elizabeth Williams; her sister, Nancy C. Brodmerkel; and her husband, James T. Parks. She is survived by her son, David Parks of Charleston, SC, and daughter Nancy Keller of Idaho Falls, ID. Grandchildren include Abigail, Spencer, and Alleiah Parks and Alexander Paynter and a great-granddaughter Annabel Rose Parks.

We will be celebrating Jim and Linda’s 53rd wedding anniversary at Holly Hill Cemetery in Fairburn, GA, on June 29th, at which time she will be laid to rest with Jim. We would like to ask others to celebrate this joyous reunion with us! In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local animal shelter or wildlife rehabilitation center.
