Jackie Lynn Rogers, 65, of Maryville, Tennessee, went to be with the lord unexpectedly on August 24, 2021, at his home in Louisville, Tennessee. 

Jackie liked to fish and ride Motorcycles every chance he got. He enjoyed spending time in the mountains and being outdoors.

He is preceded in death by Ellen Rogers, Pete Rogers, Ricky Rogers, and Barbara King.

Survivors include his two sons; Jacky Rogers and Shawn Rogers; wife, Vicki Hicks; brother, Frank Rogers; sisters, Vicki Michael and Nancy Goodman; grandchildren: Chelsea Rogers, Treyson Rogers and Noah Rogers;  along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will be spreading Jackie’s ashes at a private location, followed by a celebration of life in Maryville, Tennessee.

Betty Gail Callis Gibson, 63, passed away September 3rd, 2021. She is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Virginia Callis, and father, William Edward Callis; son, Timothy William Brandt; and daughter, Kristina Nicole Brandt Warren. She is survived by sister, Sandra Lee Callis Turek; brother, David Wayne Callis (Sheila); daughter, Melissa Ann Brandt Phillips; son, Anthony Wayne Brandt (Liza); nephews, Austin Turek and Matthew Turek; grandchildren, Chase McClain, Zachary Smith, Haley Brandt, Adrianna Warren, Kingston Warren, Candice Harmon, Paisley Bryant, River Brandt and Montana Brandt.

Betty was born on June 14th, 1958, in Petersburg, Virginia. She moved to Tennessee in 1992 with her family and has lived there since. She graduated from Petersburg High School and studied at John Tyler Community College. She was employed at Action Antique Barn in Sevierville, Tennessee. Betty was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her greatest joy in life was her family and friends. She was loved and cherished by all her family and friends. Betty was an amazing woman who touched any life she came in contact with. She was a kind and caring person who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held in her honor, both in-person and virtual.

Kathy Cobb Sturgill, born February 15, 1955, “slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God” on September 12, 2021. She was 66 years old.

Kathy was raised in Frakes, Kentucky, surrounded by her large extended Cobb, Partin, Maiden, and Henderson family. She attended Henderson Settlement High School and later graduated from Lincoln Memorial University as a Registered Nurse in 1978. She worked for 35 years as an RN in all areas with a focus on medical-surgical and critical care.  Her ministry of nursing primarily took place at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Knoxville.

Kathy had a heart filled with compassion for the elderly and for those struggling with addiction. In her semi-retirement years, she was a nursing home administrator and later helped manage Pump Spring Baptist’s “Heart of Hope” residential ministry for women with addiction issues or transitioning from prison.

Kathy was a devoted mother and grandmother, daughter, sister, daughter-in-law, cousin, and friend. She loved her children, Arlie Napier and Matthew and Mark Sturgill, but ADORED her grandchildren:  Haylee, Cameron (CJ), Kaylee, Hunter, John Daniel, and Zachary.  Her greatest accomplishment was seeing to it that her grandchildren knew the Lord as she did – as Savior, Comforter, Protector, and Refuge.

Kathy is survived by her children Matthew (Brittney) Sturgill and Mark Sturgill, parents Arlie and Margie Cobb, brother Darrell (Annette) Cobb, sister Leah Shannon (Larry) Snodgrass, grandchildren John Daniel and Zachary Napier and Haylee, Cameron (CJ), Kaylee and Hunter Sturgill, special nieces Alexandra and Alisha Snodgrass, special uncle Homer Cobb, special cousin Karen Miracle Torez, dear friends Mary Ann Frost, Carolyn Gray, Charlene Mullins and Judy Gregory and a host of other beloved family and friends.

Kathy was preceded in death by her oldest son, Arlie Napier, her brother Douglas Cobb, her former husband Jerry Sturgill, and her beloved mother-in-law, Louise Sturgill.

A celebration of life service will take place Friday, September 17, 2021, at Pump Springs Baptist Church, 225 Pump Springs Road, Harrogate, TN 37752. Family will receive visitors from 5-6:45 PM, and the celebration of life service will start at 7 PM. The interment and graveside service will take place at 11 AM at the Cobb Family Cemetery in Frakes, Kentucky, on Saturday, September 18, 2021.

James Graham Hatcher, age 36, from Knoxville, TN, passed this life on September 26, 2021, at Integrity House. James was born on January 20, 1985, in Knoxville.  

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Heather Hatcher; sons, Jayden Hatcher of Knoxville, Jahkai Hatcher of Powell; and daughter, Journey Hatcher of Oak Ridge. His parents, Philip and Angela Hatcher, of Memphis, TN area, his sister, and four half brothers.

He was preceded in death by his birth parents, Sammy Graham and Tonya White.

A scattering of his ashes will be done at a later date.

Diana Sliger Keaton, 67, went home to be with Jesus on September 29, 2021, after a battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was a graduate of Powell High School and retired from Covenant Health Systems. She is survived by her daughter, Kelli Evans, and husband Phil. Her grandchildren, Thomas, Cameron, and Jeremiah, whom she loved very much. Brother, John Sliger and wife Diane. Sister, Missy Petree and husband Rick. Longtime best friend, Ashley Webb and husband Russell. Preceded in death by parents Mona and John Sliger. A memorial service will be held on 11/6 from 5-7 pm at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 4211 Pleasant Ridge Rd. Knoxville. Rev. Carl S. (Chico) Leese will be officiating.

Scott Turbyfill, 49, of Maryville, TN, gained his wings on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, with his wife Angie by his side. He is preceded in death by his father, Paul Turbyfill and his grandparents, Bonnie and Wayne Turbyfill and Fred and Ruth Russell. He is survived by his wife, Angie Turbyfill; daughters, Whittney Turbyfill, Emily Turbyfill; step-daughter, Courtney Bailey; mother, Linda Turbyfill; sister, Tammy White; brother and sister-in-law, Rusty and April Turbyfill; and friend, Jim White. Also survived by brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, David and Kristi Jones, Stan and Debbie Newsom; best friends Don and Kim Fife and so many more; many Aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. A celebration of Life will be held on his 50th Birthday, October 10, 2021, at 3 pm at Louisville Point Park Pavillion. 

Ronald David Edsell, 81, went to be with his wife of 59 years on October 10, 2021.

He was a Veteran of the US Navy and had a passion for the outdoors. He loved fishing, cookouts, and the lake. Ronald was also a Vols fan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Edsell; son, Jeff Edsell; and parents, William and Pearlie Edsell.

Survivors include his daughter Kristi Edsell and granddaughter, Krickett Jones; daughter, Lisa and husband Jim French; and grandsons, Jeremy Cooper and Cody French.

The family will have a private Celebration of Life.

Janet P. Charters passed peacefully at home on October 2, 2021, and has moved on to be reunited with her beloved family, where she will spend all eternity with them and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born at home on May 13, 1935, to William and Zelma McMath of Lincoln Park, Michigan. 

Janet is preceded in death by her father William McMath, stepfather George McLane, and her mother Zelma McLane; two brothers Bill (Penny) McMath and Jim McMath, five sisters Dorothy (Bill) Heitman, Jean (Ervin) Schafer, Marge (Warren) Allman, Pauline (John) Kottan and Gail Carbonneau. Janet was also preceded in death by two former husbands, Edward Workman and Bob Charters.

Janet is survived by her three daughters and “sons”-in-law: Sherry (Kraig) Banks, Dawn (Gary) Goodwin, Kris (Jeff) Parks, five grandchildren: Linsey Bachman, Kyle (Desiree) Banks, Tonya (Tommy) O’Brien, April (Lee) Woods, and Cherie Parks. She leaves 14 great-grandchildren and 1, soon to be 2, great-great grandsons, many nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Doreen McMath, and lifelong friends Bud and Marge Dellert, two grand-cats, Ollie and Tigger, and one grand-dog, Dixie.

Janet was born the 7th of 8 children into a large, close-knit, and happy family. They made a trip to Long Lake in Alpena every year, and that tradition continued to include grandchildren. Janet was a homemaker while her children were young, and during those years, she bowled on a league and was a member of a Pinochle club with her sisters and friends, who went on many annual trips to Las Vegas along with their mother. Later she worked at Great Lake Steel for 24 years until retiring in 1998. Janet enjoyed traveling; she and Bob went on trips to Aruba, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and many family vacations with her daughters, sons-in-law, grandkids, nieces, and nephews. She enjoyed any time spent with her kids and grandkids, birthday parties, boat rides, and casino trips. She was a wonderful, generous mom and grandma, always ready and eager to help if one of us was in a tight spot or even help clear the land and help to build a house. Janet loved living in Tennessee, her new home, all her neighbors in the small condo community, warm evening rides in the Corvair with the top down, and late evening trips to Dairy Queen… and first on her list of favorite things to do was eating out. “I’m buying!!!” she’d say, and she didn’t like it if she didn’t get her way. Seeing our neighbor Parker sing and dance in “his shows” at Country Tonight was a great pleasure for her too.

Janet was an extremely generous, loving, and caring woman and will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021, at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home, 32163 W. Huron River Drive, Flat Rock, MI 48134. Family and friends may gather at 1 pm, and the service will be held at 2 pm.

Robert Shields Noe, 75, died Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at his home in Strawberry Plains following an illness. Preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Shields Noe and Edna Carter Noe, brothers Jerry Lynn Noe and Ernest Dale Noe, sister Linda Noe Duncan.

Gary Paul Gothard, Sr., 86, of Johnson City, TN, went to be with the Lord on September 22nd, 2021, in Knoxville, TN. He was born in Kennett, MO, on November 3rd, 1934, and was the son of Willis Pervis Gothard and Lora Sanders Gothard. He was married to Kay Frances Kelly of Caruthersville, MO, on January 20th, 1954.

Gary was a 1953 graduate of Kennett High School and soon after joined the Missouri National Guard. While serving his country, he also worked for Riggs Supply Company in Haiti, MO, where he learned many of the skills that would serve him later in life. Gary received an honorable discharge from the National Guard in 1960 and moved to Memphis with his family. Gary went on to become the owner and sole proprietor of Central Supply Company. He was a distinguished businessman, and his company was considered the best in Memphis and the Midsouth area. Gary was a member of The United Methodist Church for 50 years and came to the lord in 1978.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Kay, their two children; Gary Paul Gothard Jr. of Knoxville, TN and Kelly Gothard Parish of Waynesboro, PA, their two grandchildren; Katie Parish of Baltimore, MD and Gary Paul Gothard III of Florence, SC and their two great-grandchildren; Peyton Stone Gothard and Palmer Steele Gothard. Gary is also survived by his brother Tom Gothard of Paragould, AR as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Odell Cummings as well as his brother, Glen Gothard, and nephew, David Gothard.

Our prayer is for Gary to rest in the arms of Jesus for eternity. We will all look to the day when we are joined again in the Lord’s time.

C. Gerald Sundahl, M.D. Superb doctor, passionate teacher, gentleman farmer, voracious reader, compulsive learner, avid outdoorsman, world traveler, clock collector, sometime singer, exercise advocate, mentor to many, friend, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather…. these are many of the ways he touched our lives.  He personified contradictions, disliked ceremonies and formality, and dedicated himself to intellectual pursuits while consummately pursuing the ideals of education, self-sufficiency, and individual responsibility. Many of his last conversations centered around whether he made an impact and had anyone learned anything from him!  Dr. Jerry Sundahl, “Doc” or “Papaw”, as he was also known, passed away on October 22nd, 2021, at almost 83 years old. He lived a fulfilling life and, at his request, we are to celebrate his life and our good memories.  

Jerry was born and grew up in Bradford, PA, and graduated from Princeton University (1960) and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons (1964). After graduating from medical school, Jerry completed his internship and a year of internal medicine training in Cooperstown, NY, then moved to southern California to complete 2 years of required military service as an Air Force doctor. Jerry completed his remaining 2 years of internal medicine training and 2 years of cardiology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1972, Jerry joined the founders of the Knoxville Cardiovascular Group at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Jerry was committed to his medical practice, but his real love was helping people and playing prankster with staff. After nearly 30 years of dedicated practice, Jerry retired in 2001 but continued the learning and training necessary to retain his medical license until a few years ago.

The family wishes to thank all of the medical professionals he’s seen over the last few years for his continued care, most recently Dr. Daniel Cox and the staff at Lakemoor Family Physicians, Dr. John Acker, Dr. Scott Stevens, Dr. Michael Eilerman, and the UT Medical Center Hospice team.  Thanks to the caregivers who have assisted the family with Jerry’s care over the last year (Stuart) and, most recently, the required 24/7 care (Jackque), while still providing the respect and dignity Jerry deserved.  Thanks also to friends and the ministry at Alcoa First United Methodist church for their love and support.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Agnes Sundahl, and his brother Bruce. He leaves behind to celebrate his memory, his wife of nearly 35 years, Faye, their children Kathy (Ed), Tommy, (Joanie), Jimbo (Anahita) and Jeff (Joy), along with 11 grandchildren – Cara (Will), Alex (Allen), Katie, Kirstyn, Zachary, Baylor, Claire, Cristina (Trey), Allison, Connor, Devon, 2 great-grandchildren – Olivia, Beckett, his brother, Jim Sundahl (MaryKat) and many other family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm ET on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Alcoa First United Methodist Church, 617 Gilbert St, Alcoa, TN 37701. There will be no formal receiving of friends, but please stop by after the service to say hello to friends and family gathered. [Masks are recommended but not required.]
