Kenneth Ray Hayes, Jr.

Kenneth Ray Hayes, Jr., 62, died suddenly from cardiac arrest on Dec 31, 2021.  He is survived by his devoted partner, Deborah R. Ellis of Knoxville.  Kenny was a thoughtful and caring man who loved to fish, travel, play poker, and drink Mountain Dew.  Kenny was a veteran of the Army National Guard and served during Desert Storm.  He also leaves behind his daughter, Mandy King Folk, and his son, John Hayes.  He is survived by his sister, Linda Allred, and his brothers, Donnie, Mike, and Steve.  He is preceded in death by his sister, Diane, brother, Rick, and his sons, Billy and Justin.   He also has several nieces and nephews left behind.

Kenny worked as a plumber for many years.  He had a natural gift for fixing things and had a great interest in history.  He grew up in Blaine and enjoyed helping his papaw with the family farming.  He loved being outdoors and hiking when he was able.  He and Debbie took a lot of road trips and liked exploring the United States.  He especially enjoyed heading north to visit Debbie’s family.

Kenny will be remembered as a very sensitive man with a wonderful sense of humor.  He will be greatly missed.  He wished to be cremated and had no desire for a memorial service.

Mary “Jean” Norton Goble

Mary “Jean” Norton Goble, born September 14, 1938, and raised in Blount County, Tennessee, passed away on January 4, 2022, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Dementia. She was a homemaker for many years until she was widowed. She loved Jesus as her best friend, her children and grandchildren, and trips to the beach. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her sons Richard and spouse Kay Goble, Douglas and spouse Ramona Goble, and daughter Mechelle Stevens. Brothers: Tom and his wife Linda Norton and Jerry and his wife Brenda Norton. Her special niece, Lori, and her husband, Will Woolum, and special nephew, Jimmy Jones.  Also, 6 Grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by husband: R C Goble, Parents: Roy Norton and Frances Norton, sister: Johnnie Jones, daughter: Tonya Goble, grandson: Aaron Goble.

Special thank you to Avalon Hospice nurses Lisa, Cindy, and Monica for their loving care. The past year, they became family, and they helped us with all that was needed, especially in the last days of her life.

To honor her wishes, we will be planning a Celebration of Life for this amazing woman in the late Spring/early Summer. She loved family gatherings, so we will have an outdoor event to honor her the way she loved.

Connie Eileen Ellis Brown

Connie Eileen Ellis Brown of Sevierville, TN, passed away on January 7, 2022, at the LeConte Medical Center in Sevierville at the age of 62. She was born January 11, 1959, to Wilson “Bill” and Julia Bragdon Ellis in Presque Isle, ME. She was a 1977 graduate of Presque Isle High School and received a certificate from the Office Assistant program of Northern Maine Technical College in 1997.

Connie proudly served 17 years as an Air Force spouse and worked at Dollywood in Sevierville for 17 years until her early retirement in 2016 due to Breast Cancer, of which she was a proud survivor. She loved traveling with her husband Tim, as well as crocheting, baking, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Connie was a long-time member of the United Pentecostal Church, serving with dedication and love in a number of capacities. She began her journey at the First UPC of Presque Isle, ME, and was a 22-year member of the Pentecostals of Sevierville, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and leader of the ladies’ department.

Remaining to cherish Connie’s memory are her high school sweetheart and loving husband of 44 years, Tim Brown; their children Tina and Jeremy Spiers, Chelle and John Harwood, Dan Brown, and Kyle and Danielle Brown; grandchildren Alicia and Elijah Cavin, Lexi. Alyssa, Jamison, Jack, Bentley, and Phoenix; siblings Wesley Ellis and Patricia Ryan, Luther and Mary Ellis, Ricky Ellis and Darlene Nelson, and sister-in-law Pam Ellis; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, Bill and Julia, and her siblings Easter Smith, Wilson Ellis Jr., and Stephen Ellis.

Zachary Wayne Dye

Zachary Wayne Dye, 35, of Rockford, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Jan 10. Zachary was a loving Husband, Father, and Son. He graduated from Heritage High School in 2004, served in the Marine Corps, and received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Tennessee. His favorite past time was spending time with his children, and spending time in the mountains. He is survived by his wife of 15 years Amanda Dye, sons Colton, Carson, and Mason, daughter Grace; father Kenny Dye, sisters Whitney Dye, and Elyshia Cooper, and brother Bradley Cooper; grandmother Shirley Reagan, Aunts Lesa Hembree and Kim Wald, Uncle Charlie Dixon; cousins Jason Hembree, Kassidy Moore, and Connor Moore; and several nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. Dwayne E. Nance, age 60, passed away at home, Friday, January 14, 2022. Dwayne was born January 29, 1961, in Knoxville, TN. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara R. Day, and father, Bill Nance. Survivors include her son, Wayne Nance and wife; sisters, Carolyn Barkley and Cindy (Tony) Jones; granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A very good friend since childhood, Bobby Ford.

John Albert Cross

John Albert Cross – age 87, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 30, 2021. John was born and raised in Knoxville, where he graduated high school and went to work at Norfolk Southern Railroad. John took a leave from Norfolk

Southern to join the Air Force in January of 1955, where he served as an Airman 2nd Class before receiving honorable discharge in November 1958. John returned to Norfolk Southern Railroad after serving and working as a Maintenance Mechanic and Inspector until retiring in 1993, after 36 years with the company.

John was an avid sportsman and athlete, enjoying competitive golf and bowling for years on the local circuit, bowling five perfect games in his career and being inducted into the Knoxville Bowling Hall of Fame. John was also a professional country dancer and instructor for 20+ years during the 80s and 90s and loved giving lessons and competing in dance competitions at Desperados in Knoxville.

John was preceded in death by his parents Roland C. and Ethel W. Cross; sisters Wilma Brookshire (Stan), Annetta Kirby (Fred), Sue Richards (Lowell), Linda Perry (Lurley), and Shirley Barnard (Ronnie). He is survived by nephews Butch Brookshire, Mike Brookshire and Greg Brookshire; Chris Kirby (Phyllis) and Danny Kirby (Stephanie); Ernie Perry (Michelle); Lowell Richards, Jr. (Nan); and nieces Connie Farris (Larry), Joyce Hopson (Gary), Lisa Breskow (Shawn), Pam Hodge (Chris); Darlene Walker; Kelly Simpson (Stuart); and Teresa Nichols (Greg); and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Bowl-a-bration of Life will be held Friday, February 4th from 6:00-8:00 PM at Strike & Spare Fountain Lanes, 3315 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917. Friends and family are invited to stop by, share memories of John, and bowl a frame in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Young-Williams Animal Center.

Lesa Diane McMahan (McNutt)

Lesa Diane McMahan (McNutt), age 61, passed away on Wednesday, January 12th, 2022, at Beverly Park Place in Knoxville. Lesa was born on November 16th, 1961, in Missouri to Jerry and Mary “Nell” McNutt. She grew up in East Knoxville and attended Carter High School.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jerry McNutt and Mary “Nell” McNutt. She is survived by her children Trista McNutt and Cody McNutt. Her sister Debra Calloway, brother Tim McNutt and sister Oleta McNutt. She had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Her wishes were to be cremated. Dogwood Cremation will be taking care of her wishes. Her ashes will be laid to rest at a later date.

The family would like to extend a Thank you to Amedisys Hospice and Beverly Park Place for the care they gave. Also, would like to thank Dogwood Cremation for being so kind and making the process easy.

Tonda R. Hatfield

Tonda R. Hatfield, 52, of Wytheville, VA, formerly of Beckley, WV, entered eternal life at the University of Tennessee Medical Center on Sunday, January 23, 2022, in Knoxville, TN, after a short illness, with her family by her side.

Tonda was born in Welch, West Virginia, to the late Jack Walker (Sunny) Brown and the late Bessie Parthina Blankenship. She later moved to Montgomery County, Virginia, where she started her family and became a Licensed Cosmetologist. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, loved to watch NASCAR racing, football, and her Hallmark movies, listen to music, and go fishing.

Above all, she was a devoted Mother to her sons. Tonda is best remembered by her infectious smile and satiric personality. Tonda is “unforgettable” and will be missed by many.

Those left to cherish her memories are her sons, Johnse Hatfield, of Knoxville, TN; Jeremy Hatfield (Lacee Ayers), of Elliston, VA; and Joshua Hatfield, of Christiansburg, VA. One brother, Michael (Tena) Brown, of Oceana, WV; her granddaughters, Cierra and Cassidy Hatfield, Kylie and Sophie Hatfield, and niece, Tanisha Frazier; Sissy Carolyn (Hatfield) and Bob Melton; another Sis Velma Hatfield; special friends, Connie Bowles, Katrina Phillips and her special Lil’ Buddy, Gunnar Taylor.

There will be a memorial service held for Tonda on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at 4:00 PM at Wytheville First Church of God, 1135 Cove Road, Wytheville, VA, with Pastor Donn Sunshine officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 3 PM – 4 PM before the service.

Clifton Barry Meade

Clifton Barry Meade, age 65 of Pound, VA, was called home by our lord on January 16th, 2022. Barry was a class of 1974 graduate of Pound High School. Barry was a dedicated son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to us all. He enjoyed the outdoors, including horseback (donkey) riding, walks, car shows, and car races. He was also a respected member of the Masonic Lodge in Strawberry Plains. Barry was employed for many years at Nyrstar Mines and was extremely proud of his employment and achievements there. He is preceded in death by his father, Clayton Meade, and his daughter, Stephanie Sturgill-Adams. He is survived by his mother, Kay Dotson; his wife Michelle; his brother Ron; his sons Dustin & Nathanial and their wives Katie and Davina, respectively; stepchildren Donja & Jordan; and grandchildren Julien, Grayson, McKaylee, Kendall, and, of course, Dutchess.

Billy Allen Williams

Billy Allen Williams earned his wings February 2, 2022 after fighting lingering problems from Covid for 4 months. Billy was born June 25, 1968 in Los Angeles, CA to Bill and Mary Ann Williams. Billy was of the Baptist faith.

Preceded in death by his wife Teresa Ann (Carr), father Bill Williams, nephews Billy Gregory Williams, Michael Walker Jr & Dustin (Pork) Price.

Survived by his mother Mary Ann Williams, mother-in-law Irma Carr, his girls Brittany Isbill (Nicholas Weaver), Jessica Isbill and Erica Isbill. Sisters Patti Hodge (Stimey), Carolyn (Cricket) Dennis and Donna Broyles (Rick), Brother John Williams. He has 6 grandchildren that he loved, Ryan Daniel Weaver, Elijah Frank Alton Riley, William Shon Seivers, Isabella Rutherford, Jocelyn Rutherford & Marvel Rutherford. Special friend Susan Lynn and her parents Dewey & Peggy Jones. Nieces & nephews, Jennifer Denny (Ricky), Crystal Broyles, Brandy Storment, Bryan Price & Brandon Price. Lots of great nieces and nephews and many friends.

Billy loved all of his family. Billy drove a truck for over 30 years and was known as Billy the Kid on the road. If you knew Billy, you know how he got that name.
